The Clinical Embryologist will perform all aspects of assisted reproductive procedures. This includes sperm wash, media preparation, egg insemination/fertilization, egg clean-up/score of fertilization, embryo culture, grading, assisted hatching, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), sperm identification from epididymal aspirated or testicular biopsy, embryo transfer, embryo freeze, embryo thaw, and embryo biopsy. The role also involves ordering, receiving, inspecting, and storing culture media, performing initial quality control testing, and quality control testing of media with mouse embryo assay and sperm survival test. Additionally, the embryologist will perform sperm preparation and freezing, identify and isolate human oocytes, prepare reagents for preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), and maintain the proper operation of specialized equipment. The position requires presenting statistics for Advanced Reproductive Technology (ART) meetings, performing quality control procedures, preparing and forwarding the Embryology Laboratory Charges Report, maintaining inventories of cryopreserved embryos, and updating patient files. The embryologist will also counsel patients, obtain consent, answer questions regarding laboratory aspects of IVF care, and enter patient and cycle information into appropriate databases, including electronic transmission to SART and maintaining up-to-date electronic records in the infertility data system (IDS).
