About The Position

Coordinates departmental orientation for new employees and students. Fosters the development of leadership, teamwork, and customer service skills. Works collaboratively with laboratory managers and directors to identify the learning needs of staff to provide educational activities, which meet the needs of staff and achieve expected patient and/or family care outcomes Employs a variety of interactive teaching strategies. Evaluates the outcomes of orientation and educational activities in collaboration with staff, and laboratory leadership. Revises learning activities based on results of evaluation. Completes mandatory and continuing education requirements as defined by the position. Develops, coordinates, assesses, and documents competency testing. Plans and implements educational seminars and training for system, policy and process changes based on quality evaluations or internal recommendations. Serves as a resource to employees, physicians, patients, and families. Mentors and actively facilitates the clinical and professional advancement of staff. Models, promotes, and monitors department’s sensitivity to customers’ needs. Serves as a liaison person between laboratory and other departments. Provides consultation to leadership regarding systems for clinical competency and ongoing professional development of staff. Participates in the development and attainment of goals and objectives. Maintains the documentation and record keeping system for orientation, continuing education, and competency evaluation in compliance with organizational and external agency requirements. Participates in outreach education to assure ongoing growth and staff development. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others. Other job functions as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree, or Masters preferred in a biological or medical science.
  • Three years minimum laboratory experience in hospital setting.
  • MT (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Possesses effective teaching skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff.

  • Supervisory or clinical teaching experience preferred.
