About The Position

The Clinical Educator I is responsible for the following functions within the Clinical Education Department. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for all levels of staff. The Clinical Educator I collaborates with the Clinical Education Department Team Members and Clinical Education Nursing Supervisor in planning staff development and orientation activities for new hires. They also assist current staff in maintaining and upgrading skills through professional development and consultative activities, utilizing a variety of instructional methods and principles of adult education. The role requires updating educational materials, facilitating the use of rosters and evaluation forms, and supervising the orientation of new personnel. Proficiency in computerized equipment for classroom instruction and cooperation with planned changes in departmental operations are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) years of acute care nursing experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable standards of nursing practice relevant to assigned unit(s) (e.g., critical care, med/surg, orthopedics, oncology, maternal/newborn)
  • ADN with documentation of acceptance/enrollment in a BSN program with successful completion of the degree within two (2) years from date of hire or promotion
  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Alabama
  • Successful completion of basic and advanced life support appropriate to patient population (instructor status preferred)
  • Ability to interact successfully with diverse groups, fostering cooperation and teamwork
  • Exceptional organizational and presentation skills
  • Proficient computer skills including software in a Windows environment and Microsoft Office applications
  • Energy, adaptability, and skill for conflict resolution and as well as management of diversity
  • Ability to engender confidence and trust from employees, physicians, and ancillary department personnel
  • Ability to function independently with effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to conduct educational activities and presentations effectively to all levels of staff
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three (3) years of acute care nursing/supervisory/management experience (charge nurse/nursing supervisor/relief charge nurse)
  • BSN
  • Current clinical certification appropriate to unit scope of care (e.g, CCU, Med-Surg, Oncology, orthopedics, maternal/newborn)
  • Current, active involvement in appropriate and approved local and national professional organizations (e.g., AACN, ANA, AWHONN) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude, ability, and actions to adapt to changes in work/work flow.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate educational programs for all levels of staff.
  • Collaborating with Clinical Education Department Team Members and Clinical Education Nursing Supervisor in the planning of current staff development and orientation activities for new hires.
  • Assisting current staff in maintaining and upgrading skills in the care of patients through nursing staff professional development and consultative activities.
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional methods and principles of adult education in teaching.
  • Updates educational materials as needed to provide the most current information regarding, but not limited to, SE Health hospital policy, and equipment and regulation guidelines.
  • Facilitates use of rosters and evaluation forms during educational activities completing and recording electronically in a timely manner.
  • Supervising the orientation of new personnel during orientation periods.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in use of computerized equipment as required for classroom instruction.
  • Cooperates with and adapts to planned changes in Clinical Education Departmental operation.
