About The Position

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as the Clinical Director – Specialty Area - Adult Inpatient Cardiovascular Services and Neuroscience/Multispecialty Intensive Care Units. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Adult Inpatient Operations & Emergency Services, Associate Chief Nursing Officer, the Clinical Director will lead high performance teams under his/her direction to accomplish the mission, vision, and philosophy of the organization. We are seeking a driven leader who can think in enterprise-wide terms and have knowledge of complex adaptive systems to impart effective fiscal decisions, the delivery of quality and safe care, use effective human resource management, and lead change management initiatives. The Director will develop a network of relationships with physician leaders and leaders of all departments to foster an environment of collaboration. Through the practice of transformational and servant leadership, the Director will cultivate satisfaction for patients and staff. The Director maintains standards of the practice of nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice. This position ensures quality, compassionate, culturally competent, effective and efficient patient care.

Requirements

  • BSN required.
  • A Master’s degree in Nursing also required or an advanced degree in a healthcare related field will be accepted in lieu of a MSN.
  • Specialty Nursing certification accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) required.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of progressive management experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of overall clinical experience to include at least one area of 24-7 operations.
  • Experience in Acute Care / Critical Care strongly preferred.
  • Solid reputation as an individual who can provide sound leadership and build effective teams to maximize organizational success.
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement, LEAN methodology.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate, implement, support, and evaluate goals and priorities which are consistent with UChicago Medicine’s mission.
  • Responsible for leading a high-performance team of “system thinkers” who incorporates leadership principles and vision in caring for patients across the continuum of care.
  • Assure that variances with care are identified and managed appropriately.
  • Use clinical skills and knowledge to ensure that high-quality, evidence-based care is provided to patients.
  • Apply interpersonal communication skills to maintain an open network of communication among staff members, physicians, other health care professionals and hospital departments.
  • Promote a professional practice environment through strategic planning, evidenced based practice, clinical autonomy, and advocacy for the nursing staff.
  • Comply with standards and regulations of various licensures, regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Leads change through adoption of technologies that promotes advances in patient outcomes.
  • Work with the Executive Director/Associate Chief Nursing Officer to develop and monitor the budget within established guidelines.
  • Maintain cost effective, safe, high quality patient care in all areas.
  • Have the authority to hire, develop, appraise, and discharge employees under direct supervision.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.
  • Evaluate staff performance on a formal and informal basis.
  • Provide performance appraisal input on unit aligned staff and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Recognize staff for performance.
  • Participate in the corrective action process in a consistent and accountable manner.
  • Participate in activities to enhance UChicago Medicine’s image as a leader in the community.
  • Mentor and network with other program directors and managers.
  • Determine own needs for professional growth through ongoing assessment and participation in educational sessions/offerings inside and outside of the hospital.
