About The Position

Within a state hospital or inpatient medical facility, this role involves planning, developing, and directing psychology services and programs. The Clinical Director ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, oversees and supervises psychology staff, and organizes education and training. This position also oversees research or other data collecting initiatives, collaborates with academic institutions to develop and oversee a clinical psychology teaching program for various levels of students and fellows, and provides clinical and administrative leadership for the psychology department. Responsibilities include directing psychology services and programs such as diagnosis, treatment, research, and education; coordinating and integrating resources and services in an efficient interdisciplinary model; participating in the development of hospital policies and procedures for safe, consistent, effective, and quality patient care; collaborating with other departments and participating in hospital committees, educational programs, and special task groups; participating in quality and utilization reviews and promoting mental health advancement; being responsible for the psychology department's policies, procedures, and protocols; overseeing and supervising psychology staff including clinical psychologists, behavior specialists, art therapists, and addiction counselors; conducting annual staff performance evaluations; being responsible for psychology staff education and training; ensuring proper principles and techniques of clinical psychology are applied in diagnosis and treatment; overseeing, reviewing, and updating psychology documentation records; overseeing implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and safety measures; ensuring clinical staff comply with federal and state regulations, as well as professional ethics and code of conduct; planning for and recruiting psychology staff; providing consultations on difficult and complex cases involving diagnosis, treatment, and assessment with neuropsychological and personality testing; collaborating with academic institutions and directing the hospital’s psychology teaching program for undergraduate and graduate students, interns, and fellows; organizing/participating in educational workshops, difficult case conferences, and grand rounds; training and supervising students and trainees on diagnostic, treatment, and research activities; training and supervising students on administration, scoring, and interpretation of a variety of intelligence, cognitive, and personality tests; conducting clinical research in accordance with scientific standards and federal and state regulations; being responsible for updating and implementing the hospital’s research policy to ensure all research meets ethical, legal, and scientific standards and is conducted by appropriately qualified investigators; guiding and supervising students in their research activities; and maintaining clinical skills through continuing education and professional license maintenance.

Requirements

• Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited Clinical Psychology program.
• Three years of qualified experience in practicing as a licensed psychologist.
• Experience in leadership and academic training and research.
• Thorough knowledge of clinical psychology, learning theory and research methodology as applied in diagnosis, treatment, education and research.
• Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws and related guidelines relating to clinical services.
• Ability to supervise the administration, scoring and interpretation of a wide variety of tests including projective and neuropsychological and personality tests.
• Ability to plan, direct, organize, and coordinate the work of a staff of clinicians engaged in mental and behavioral health services.
• Ability to develop and training for psychology staff.
• Ability to plan and develop a variety of treatment programs.
• Ability to plan and design and conduct clinical research.
• Good communication skills and the ability to prepare written and oral reports for the administration and clinicians.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, and other staff.
• Must possess licensure as a Psychologist from the State of Rhode Island, Department of Health, and must maintain such licensure as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for updating and implementing the hospital’s research policy to ensure that all research performed at the hospital meets ethical, legal, and scientific standards and is conducted by appropriately qualified investigators.
• Guide and supervise students in their research activities.
• Maintain clinical skills through participation in continuing education and maintenance of professional license.
• Do related work as required.
