About The Position

The Clinical Dietitian works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy that are integrated and compatible with the patient's medical program goals and objectives. Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy using established standards of care and practice protocols/guidelines, managing resources in a cost-effective manner; participating in performance improvement efforts; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice. This position plays a critical role in supporting Augusta Health’s mission and advancing departmental goals through measurable performance indicators and service excellence. This position contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered environment and helps drive outcomes aligned with organizational priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree granted by a university accredited by a USDE recognized accrediting agency.
  • Completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD).
  • Completion of an ACEND accredited Dietetic Internship.
  • Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Less than 6 months' clinical experience
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and meet Virginia state employment requirements
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Accurate collection of patient information while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy, including specialized nutrition support.
  • Reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Annual Augusta Health educational requirements and unit specific competencies as assigned by the Clinical Nutrition Manager.
  • CEU to maintain license or registration.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Dietetics
  • Prior experience in a hospital, healthcare system, or related service-oriented environment
  • Familiarity with Augusta Health’s systems, workflows, or organizational culture is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Conducts nutrition screens and assessments, develops and implements an individualized plan and utilizes assessment and evaluation techniques that consider all patient needs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness and measures progress towards outcomes of Medical Nutrition Therapy interventions
  • Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient's medical record including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation and progress toward goals
  • Assess educational needs and provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups
  • Evaluates achievement of learning objectives by the patient and or family
  • Serves as resource to medical staff and allied health personnel on nutrition issues
  • Conducts in-services and educational presentation to hospital/department staff/and community
  • Identifies, designs and collects performance improvement data, monitors outcomes, and initiates corrective actions
  • Assists in achieving compliance with hospital accrediting organizations and with regulatory agency standards.
  • Maintains productivity standard and practices effective time management and prioritizing to tasks
  • Maintains dietetic registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration by meeting professional continuing education requirements
  • Performs other related assignments delegated by the Clinical Nutrition Manager and/or Nutrition Services Director
