About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide highly specialized/individualized nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy to persons living at Murdoch Developmental Center (MDC) with a wide variety of acute and chronic illnesses/conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, dysphagia, swallowing and feeding difficulties/behaviors, developmental disorders/autism, diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, gastrointestinal disorders, metabolic disorders, inborn errors of metabolism, and food allergies/intolerances. The primary duties of the Clinical Dietitian include nutritional assessment and documentation for an assigned caseload, meeting attendance, and nutrition education/training. All employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in foods and nutrition or a related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition AND Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); OR Bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, or related area from an appropriately accredited institution that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition AND Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and current registration, in good standing, administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) AND two years of experience in a clinical dietary setting.
  • Licensure must be obtained prior to beginning employment.

  • DD 256 or NGB 22 if a former member of the NC National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of dietetics and nutrition.
  • Knowledge of the dietary requirements for a variety of special diets and allowable substitutions for various items found on regular and diet menus.
  • Ability to professionally produce and present nutrition education/training to both large and small audiences.
