The Dietitian position exists to function within the Medical Nutrition Services department. This position serves as part of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide patient care that is integrated, compatible with the patient-focused medical goals and culturally appropriate in accordance with SEARHC’s strategic goals. Performs in a professional manner and respects confidentiality. Required to make daily decisions on nutritional management about a wide range of clinical problems for both inpatients and outpatients. This necessitates keeping up to date in all clinical areas to manage daily problems as well as on call. Complex problems may require literature searches, consultation with medical staff, other dietitians, as well as other health professionals to determine a management plan. They must prioritize their time within the constraints of food service, short-term admissions and coordination of nutritional care with other members of the health care team. Responsible for maintaining and applying current scientific knowledge about food and nutrition to individuals and groups in states of health and disease to promote optimal health outcomes within the social, economic and cultural context of the Alaska Native/American Indian population in accordance with SEARHC’s primary objectives and the policies and procedures of the medical nutrition services department.
