This role involves identifying the need for and implementing comprehensive nutrition assessments, collaborating with patients and families, evaluating nutritional education needs, and utilizing evidence-based practice guidelines. The Clinical Dietitian will determine patient-centered outcomes, respond promptly to patient needs, refer patients to community resources, and collaborate with healthcare professionals. Specific duties include performing nutritional assessments on dialysis patients, reviewing lab results, and tracking QAPI data. The role may also involve conducting education programs and developing educational materials for dietetic students and interns.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics required.
Must maintain Wyoming licensure for Registered Dietitians.
Must maintain registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Must have current, valid BLS certification or must obtain within 60 days of hire and must maintain credential throughout employment with IMH.

Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, hospital leadership, and the general public both verbally and in writing.
Exceptional critical thinking skills with cognizance of professional scope.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics preferred.
One year of clinical nutrition experience preferred.
Membership in the Wyoming Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Dietetic Practice Groups appropriate for specialty area preferred.
Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist credential preferred.

Responsibilities

Identifies need for and implements comprehensive nutrition assessments consistent with Ivinson Memorial Hospital policies; directs the nutritional assessment process in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team.
Collaborates with patient/family/significant other where appropriate in the assessment process; facilitates their active participation in establishing nutrition related goals and objectives.
Evaluates the patient’s nutritional related education needs; provides education and documents as appropriate in the medical record.
Keeps updated on and uses evidence-based practice guidelines/measures for appropriate value(s) for control or improvement of the disease or conditions as defined and supported in the literature.
Determines patient centered outcomes that are clear, concise, observable and measurable, during the initial assessment and on follow up and documents consistently in the plan of care.
Responds promptly to the patient’s need for education, need for change in orders, or any other circumstance that requires change for demonstration of the best outcome.
Refers patients to appropriate resources in the community as needed.
Collaborates with other colleagues and health care professionals in expediting orders that lead to the best practice outcomes for the individual patient, this includes attendance at patient care conferences, rounds, etc. where care can be discussed and orders quickly obtained for required changes.
Performs nutritional assessments on all assigned dialysis patients per Departmental Standards of Care.
Reviews lab results, dialysis adequacy, fluid weight status, and nutrition concerns with assigned patients on monthly basis, and educates patients regarding appropriate nutrition related changes when necessary.
Tracks Nutrition related QAPI data, participate in QAPI meetings and QAPI projects.
Participates in and coordinates departmental initiatives relative to patient care.
May conduct education programs for patients, physicians, nurses, and other health care team members/departments, and/or the public.
Educates and evaluates the development of dietetic students.
Develops educational materials for use in developing the clinical nutrition skills of interns and students.
Other duties as assigned.
