About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA, is hiring a Clinical Dietitian for a Flexi Day shift position. The role involves the identification, diagnosis, and prevention of malnutrition in accordance with medical staff approved clinical practice standards, including nutrition-focused physical exams. The Clinical Dietitian will attend multidisciplinary rounds, participate in performance improvement initiatives, and serve as a resource for nutrition-related matters for patients, families, medical staff, and the multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities also include performing comprehensive nutrition assessments and documentation within department time frames, conducting nutrition-focused physical exams when appropriate, and diagnosing malnutrition according to ASPEN/AND criteria, documenting findings in the EMR. Follow-up will be conducted per department policy time frames. The dietitian will participate in multidisciplinary patient-focused meetings, including MDRs and ICU rounds, demonstrating collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in direct patient care, and providing patient/family and staff education. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a 525-bed tertiary care facility, home to the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads, and serves as the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School. Requirements

  • BLS must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) should be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Verification statements required for those candidates awaiting RD credentialing
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • If Bachelor's Degree is in major other than Dietetics, must complete an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics
  • Relevant Experience (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Performs nutrition focused physical exam when appropriate
  • Performs malnutrition diagnosis in accordance with ASPEN/AND criteria and documents accordingly in EMR
  • Follow-up per department policy time frames
  • Participates in multidisciplinary patient focused meetings including MDRs, ICU rounds
  • Meets expectations by providing evidence of working with multidisciplinary teams in direct patient care
  • Patient/family and staff education
