Requirements

  • At least one (1) year of acute care setting or environment consistent with job responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition or related field required.
  • Certification as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration - Preferred. Must Obtain within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and implement routine nutritional assessments.
  • Collaborate with patient/client to facilitate active participation and assess individual needs to establish mutual nutrition-related goals.
  • Follow the Nutrition Care Process and apply clinical skills to promote disease management in a multitude of care settings.
  • Utilize Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE) skills to assess malnutrition prevalence and severity.
  • Collaborate and communicate nutrition care with the multidisciplinary clinical team and the food service department, to ensure the highest quality of nutrition care.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary care meetings such as rounds, patient care conferences, and discharge planning.
  • Appropriately document all care in the medical record.
  • Evaluate, address, and document the patient’s nutritional related education needs, barriers to learning, and cultural and religious preferences.
  • Evaluate and tailor education to meet individual learning needs and assess level of understanding.
  • Record patient productivity on a daily basis.
  • May act as preceptor for student RD/RDN/DTR training programs.
  • May provide on the job training to new RD/RDN/DTRs.
  • Continually stay abreast of current evidence-based nutrition recommendations through a variety of continuing education activities.
  • Engage in ongoing self-development to improve knowledge and enhance professional competence.
  • May participate in or generates research to enhance practice.
  • Review research and effectively apply findings to practice.
  • Base practice on sound scientific principles and utilize evidenced-based recommendations.
  • May support the collection of data and documents outcomes within the practice setting.
  • Conduct routine service recovery and escalate issues to appropriate departmental leadership.
  • Make appropriate referrals to community resources as needed and may engage in internal and external health and wellness activities.
  • Support departmental quality improvement projects and take initiative to identify quality and improvement issues.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics for the profession of dietetics and hospital code of conduct and general expectations' policy.
  • Follow hospital, state, and federal guidelines and policies.
