About The Position

The Clinical Diabetes Specialist provides Medical Nutrition Therapy and Diabetes Self-Management Training for adult patients in the outpatient setting. Conducts group diabetes education classes. This position also is responsible for coordination of the Diabetes Education Program. The Diabetes Education Specialist and acts in a supervisory role over the diabetes educators and diet technicians. Empower patients to take control of their diabetes—and lead the future of diabetes education. We’re seeking an experienced Registered Dietitian with a passion for diabetes care, patient education, and clinical leadership. In this role, you’ll partner with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based diabetes self‑management education while helping guide program development and quality improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3–5 years of related professional experience
  • Registered Dietitian with specialty certification
  • Illinois licensure as required
  • Must obtain Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential within 12 months of hire/transfer

Responsibilities

  • Apply principles of adult learning, behavior change, and lifestyle counseling to help clients confidently manage diabetes and related conditions.
  • Provide individualized, culturally responsive education to patients of all ages, incorporating health beliefs and preferred learning styles.
  • Lead and facilitate group diabetes education classes and diabetes self‑management training, including guidance on nutrition, medications, and lifestyle modification.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver care aligned with American Diabetes Association (ADA) Standards of Care.
  • Document comprehensive assessments, care plans, interventions, and outcomes in the medical record according to established guidelines.
  • Serve as a team leader and preceptor, mentoring dietetic interns and supporting staff development.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary committees and workgroups to advance clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Coordinate and document quality improvement initiatives and ongoing evaluation of patient education programs.
  • Submit required program and outcomes data to Endocrinology leadership, Loyola Outpatient Center Administration, and the Department of Medicine Center for Clinical Effectiveness.
  • Provide professional leadership on nutrition and diabetes care through presentations, publications, or community outreach.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support program growth and excellence.
