About The Position

The Clinical Cytogeneticist will perform clinical interpretations of cases in karyotyping and FISH. The Clinical Cytogeneticist will provide consultation to the medical community and TriCore clients. This role supports the Cytogenetics department in assuring compliance with all applicable regulations (including but not limited to safety, CAP, and CLIA). The position involves providing test interpretation and clinical consultation to laboratory and clinical service clients, developing and maintaining relationships with Genetic Counselors to improve medical outcomes and appropriateness of testing, and providing sign out of clinical cases in concert with the pathologist Medical Director. Participation in Abnormal Case Review for the cytogenetics department is also expected when requested.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in relevant field.
  • Three (3) years progressive experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • ACMG Board Certified as a Clinical Cytogeneticist.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and to work in a high productivity/high stress environment.
  • Ability to deal with difficult and sensitive situations.
  • Problem solving skills/reasoning ability.
  • Ability to make difficult or complex decisions without established guidelines.
  • Follow company safety and personnel policies.

  • Actively solicits feedback from staff as appropriate.
  • Proficient PC skills.
  • Must maintain an up to date knowledge of laboratory medicine through self-study and continuing education.
  • Attend a minimum of nine (9) continuing education programs per anniversary year with a minimum of one (1) outside the organization.

  • A record of scholarly achievement related to medicine and genetics.
  • A record of experience with constitutional and oncology interpretation and consultation.
