About The Position

Responsible for providing direct nursing care and public health services to individuals, families, and the community for Montgomery County. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management. Schedule, shift assignments, and work location may also be changed as required by business necessity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or other equivalent
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas
  • Knowledge of public health and community nursing practices
  • Displays excellent grant reporting and compliance, budgeting and project management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and public health software
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently
  • Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner
  • Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong math, spelling, computer, and calculator abilities
  • Ability to communicate in a professional, calm, and courteous manner with the general public and employees
  • Attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred
  • Three years of nursing experience
  • Two years in grant management or public health program coordination preferred

Responsibilities

  • Administers immunizations, medications, and treatments as prescribed.
  • Conducts health assessments, screenings, and physical exams.
  • Provides nursing care in communicable disease control, maternal/child health, family planning, and chronic disease management.
  • Collects and manages lab specimens, interprets results, and follows up with patients as needed.
  • Educates patients and families on health conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care.
  • Offers counseling and referrals for services such as nutrition, mental health, substance use, and family support.
  • Participates in community health programs, health fairs, and emergency response efforts.
  • Provides home visits as part of health promotion activities.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential patient records using electronic health systems.
  • Documents services in compliance with departmental, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Reports communicable diseases and other public health concerns as required by law.
  • Researches available nursing and public health-related grants at the federal, state, and private levels.
  • Collaborates with leadership to assess funding needs and prepare grant applications and proposals.
  • Develops timelines, budgets, and objectives for grant projects.
  • Monitors grant expenditures and ensures compliance with all reporting and fiscal requirements.
  • Oversees implementation of grant-funded programs and projects.
  • Coordinates with internal teams and external partners to achieve grant deliverables.
  • Ensures project goals align with the county’s public health priorities and strategic plan.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of grant activity and performance metrics.
  • Prepares and submits required reports to funding agencies on time.
  • Assists with internal audits and evaluations of grant-funded programs.
  • Serves as liaison between nursing/public health staff and grant funding agencies.
  • Trains and supports staff on grant-specific procedures and compliance.
  • Represents the department at local, regional, and state-level meetings as needed.
  • Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.
  • Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed.
