Clinical Coordinator and Instructor/Assistant Professor - College of Health Professions, Department of Diagnostic and Health Sciences
About The Position
The University of Tennessee Health Sciences is seeking candidates to be the Clinical Coordinator for the Pathologists’ Assistant (Patha) Program, in the College of Health Professions, Department of Diagnostic and Health Sciences. The position is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure-track position at the Instructor or Assistant Professor rank. The Clinical Coordinator’s responsibilities in the PathA program include managing the clinical rotation sites, maintaining affiliation agreements, writing and implementing the clinical rotation schedules, sending and maintaining the clinical handbook, distributing and collecting student and liaison clinical rotation evaluations, and recruiting new clinical rotation sites. This faculty member will participate in teaching, scholarship, and service/administration, as well as participate in the admissions process and serve as a member of the Progress and Promotion Committee for the PathA program.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program
- Current ASCP certification as a Pathologist’s Assistant; or a PhD. in a related field of study with an ASCP certification
- Must have and demonstrate up-to-date clinical knowledge and experience in laboratory medicine both in theory and practice in Pathologists’ Assistants
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, problem solving, student coaching, conflict management, and follow-through

- Previous didactic and clinical teaching experience is preferred
Responsibilities
- Manage the clinical rotation sites
- Maintain affiliation agreements
- Write and implement the clinical rotation schedules

- Distribute and collect student and liaison clinical rotation evaluations
- Recruit new clinical rotation sites
- Develop and teach Human Physiology for Pathologists’ Assistants (MSPA 515) course
- Develop and teach one of the Pathologists’ Assistant Seminar courses (MSPA 514 or 534)
- Develop and teach Pathologists Assistant Practicum I-II clinical rotation courses (MSPA 613, 622)
- Serve as a secondary instructor for Human Anatomy lab and Introduction to Surgical and Autopsy Pathology lab
- Provide additional lectures and lab as assigned or desired
- Recruit students
- Participate in scholarly activities
- Participate in professional service
- Participate in other activities assigned by the Program Director and/or Department Chair
- Participate in the admissions process
- Serve as a member of the Progress and Promotion Committee for the PathA program
