About The Position

The University of Central Florida College of Medicine (UCF-COM) is seeking a full-time Cardiology physician clinician educator in the Department of Medicine. The successful candidate will be a non-invasive cardiologist who will have primary roles for both outpatient cardiology patient clinic care as well as medical student instruction (undergraduate medical education, UME). The position is a clinical non-tenure track faculty appointment at the assistant, associate or professor of medicine rank. UCF is expanding the outpatient multi-disciplinary faculty practice with an emphasis on recruitments who have dual roles as clinician and educator. The majority of effort for the successful candidate will be at one of UCF-Health’s clinic sites in the role of faculty practitioner for non-invasive Cardiology. In addition to evaluation and management clinic patient care, the candidate must have the expertise to perform (and/or interpret, as appropriate) non-invasive cardiology procedures such as echocardiograms, nuclear medicine studies, cardiac stress tests, electrocardiograms and arrhythmia monitoring. The patient panel will represent the typical broad spectrum of patients seeking ambulatory cardiac consultation and chronic heart care including patients with chronic ischemic heart disease, arrhythmia disorders, heart failure, hypertension, and dyslipidemias in addition to those seeking preventative cardiology consultation. For the smaller educator component of this position, UME teaching will primarily be at the nearby UCF medical school and will focus on the cardiovascular curriculum: the cardiopulmonary pre-clinical course ‘module’, formal lectures, small and large, short- and long-term team instruction, and the use of recently developed simulation technology. Some teaching will also occur in the clinical setting, e.g. electives for medical students. There is the expectation that instructional design and contents will evolve over time so as to adhere to requirements for the school’s accreditation. We seek forward-thinking clinician educators with a passion for teaching who can contribute to clinical, foundational, and/or systems sciences instruction. It is strongly preferred that the successful candidate have demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of Cardiology curricula at the UME level. The candidate will also be responsible for advising students who seek Cardiology as their career path. The specifics of each year’s clinical and teaching assignment will be based on the needs of the patients, the clinic, and the medical school’s accreditation requirements. In that there will on occasion be internal medicine residents and cardiology fellows rotating through our clinics or in need of didactic lectures, there will also be a small component of graduate medical education (GME) instruction. Opportunities may also be available to: collaborate with other cardiologists at nearby partner institutions (e.g., at the VA Medical Center, the Nemours Children's Hospital and the UCF Lake Nona Medical Center); pursue interprofessional education with other members of our multi-disciplinary Academic Health Sciences Center; conduct clinical or translational research with the support of our extensive human research team; to pursue educational scholarship in collaboration with other COM faculty members; and to serve as a formal medical student advisor or mentor. As is the case for all faculty, the chosen applicant will also be expected to provide service to the educational programs and other missions of the college and university. The UCF College of Medicine educates and inspires individuals to be exemplary physicians and scientists, leaders in medicine, scholars in discovery, and adopters of innovative technology to improve the health and well-being of all. The College of Medicine is an LCME-accredited medical college with an annual matriculation of 120 medical students and is part of a new Academic Health Sciences Center which includes multiple health affairs disciplines. The College of Medicine campus is part of a growing biomedical cluster known as “Medical City” at Lake Nona which is dedicated to innovation in health and wellness and continues to develop just east of the Orlando International Airport. The College of Medicine is located in a well-equipped medical education building with modern Anatomy, Histology and simulation laboratories, as well as a state-of-the-art library. In addition to the medical school, the Lake Nona campus includes our recently opened university teaching hospital (UCF Lake Nona Medical Center), a state-of-the-art research center at the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, multi-college graduate education programs, UCF outpatient clinics, the Orlando Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Nemours Children’s Hospital, the new UCF Lake Nona Cancer Center, and the Guidewell Innovation research incubator. The nearby Osceola Regional Medical Center is another primary site of UME and GME instruction.
