About The Position

Vanderbilt Health is seeking a Clinical Athletic Trainer to join their nationally recognized Sports Medicine team. This role supports both physician practice operations and the High School Outreach Program. The position offers the opportunity to provide hands-on patient care in a clinical setting while also serving as a healthcare resource for local student-athletes, coaches, and families. The ideal candidate is passionate about injury prevention, athlete wellness, sports performance, and helping athletes safely return to play.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Athletic Training.
  • Active Tennessee Athletic Trainer License (LAT).
  • Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
  • Current CPR/AED Certification.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians, schools, and healthcare teams.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of experience as an Athletic Trainer in a sports medicine, orthopedic, clinical, collegiate, or high school outreach setting.
  • Experience with concussion management and return-to-play protocols.
  • Experience working directly with student-athletes and athletic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with orthopedic and sports medicine physicians to support patient evaluations, treatments, and follow-up care.
  • Assist with clinical procedures and patient flow in a busy physician practice environment.
  • Educate patients and families regarding injury prevention, rehabilitation plans, and post-operative recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver exceptional patient care.
  • Provide athletic training coverage for assigned high school practices, games, and athletic events.
  • Evaluate, assess, and manage sports-related injuries and medical conditions.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, coaches, athletes, parents, and school personnel.
  • Implement injury prevention programs, concussion management protocols, emergency action plans, and return-to-play guidelines.
  • Monitor athlete recovery and progression throughout rehabilitation.
  • Serve as an advocate for athlete health, safety, and performance.
  • Collaborates in establishing athletic training and sports medicine services, plan of care; then coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient/athlete care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's/athlete's care and management to determine patient/athlete functional capabilities within defined activity levels.
  • Continually utilizes Athletic Training skills and resources to evaluate patient's/athlete's functional capabilities towards optimal, safe participation, and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
