About The Position

Assists with the management of patient/athlete visits within the clinic, performing a range of clinical responsibilities in support of physicians. Participates in community outreach and conducts presentations on various Athletic Training Topics. Supervises Student Athletic Trainers and/or Intern Athletic Trainers and mentors new staff members.

Requirements

  • SC LLR Licensure as an Athletic Trainer is required for team members working in South Carolina.
  • National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • Requires a high level of physical activity and endurance as constant movement and frequent heavy lifting.

Responsibilities

  • Manages patient visits within the clinic, supporting physicians.
  • Interacts with patients and their care teams for coordinated care.
  • Obtains patient history, vital signs, and follow-up status for physician review.
  • Requests and organizes ancillary studies (X-rays, MRI, CT scans, lab work, etc.).
  • Prepares patients for physician examinations, injections, or other procedures.
  • Performs post-operative dressing changes, staple or suture removal as directed.
  • Instructs patients on post-operative or post-injury wound care and dressing care.
  • Performs joint tests or measurements upon physician direction.
  • Organizes and disburses patient lab work or other office tests.
  • Applies and removes casts and splints as directed by a physician.
  • Instructs patients on the proper care of casts and splints.
  • Provides discharge instructions for physical therapy, further studies, and follow-up appointments.
  • Teaches, counsels, and communicates with patients, athletes, families, and coaches.
  • Supports and provides educational material on injury management and prevention.
  • Participates in follow-up care for return to play or desired activity.
  • Provides information regarding follow-up services and referrals.
  • Complies with departmental policies for documentation.
  • Takes office notes as directed by physicians.
  • Organizes and disburses incoming medical records and reports.
  • Reports patients/athletes sent to MD, follow-up services ordered, and locations.
  • Volunteers for community events.
  • Coordinates and presents at local/state/regional levels on Athletic Training Topics.
  • Coordinates and presents at local/state/regional levels on Athletic Training Topics.
  • Coordinates/arranges sessions with local EMT/Emergency Services for coordination of care.
  • Coordinates with school personnel and parents/guardians for HIPAA Consent and Consent to Treat.
  • Communicates with physicians, medical assistants, parents, coaches, and the Coordinator of Sports Medicine to ensure services are performed through Prisma Health.
  • Provides oversight and delegates tasks to Student Athletic Trainers and/or Intern Athletic Trainers.
  • Mentors new staff members and serves as a consultant.
  • Maintains daily and weekly maintenance, cleanliness, and stock in rooms.
  • Prepares exam rooms for patient visits and disposes of biohazard waste and sharps containers.
  • Assists with care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
