This role is within the fast-paced Sanford Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Clinic, working alongside many great providers. Clinic hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00a - 5:00p, with no weekends, holidays, or on-call duties. The Clinical Athletic Trainer is responsible for evaluating and monitoring clinic patients within an orthopedic patient focus. The role involves participating in patient care implementation under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. Responsibilities include evaluating injuries, physical conditions, and needs, recommending scientific care plans with schedules, treatment programs, and education based on patient capabilities and limitations. The position ensures patient health, comfort, and safety, documents and interprets information from various sources, and utilizes appropriate testing techniques to assess injuries. The trainer contributes to patient assessment, administers treatments such as casting, splinting, and bracing, and educates patients on proper use. They observe patients, document changes in condition, and report adverse reactions, taking necessary action. Additionally, the role involves counseling patients and families on prevention and treatment plans, explaining safety rules for training and activities, and implementing/monitoring patient treatment regimens for rehabilitation and reconditioning.

Requirements

  • Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
  • Must be certified as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification and be licensed and/or registered in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the health, comfort and safety of patients.
  • Documents and interprets appropriate information gathered from a variety of sources, including the medical record, physician, and family.
  • Utilize appropriate testing/evaluation techniques to assess injuries.
  • Contributes to the assessment of patients and administers treatments as ordered which may include, casting, splinting, bracing and provide education to patient on proper fit and use.
  • Observe patients, document and report changes in patient condition, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and take any necessary action.
  • Counsels patients and family members on prevention and treatment plans as directed.
  • Explains and updates safety rules governing daily training, recreational activities, and the use of professional exercise equipment as needed for patient care.
  • Implements and monitors any patient treatment regimen for rehabilitation and reconditioning according to diagnosis and real-time condition.
  • Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of certification expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting.
