About The Position

Boston University School of Law seeks a founding Director of its Tax Clinic at the rank of Clinical Associate Professor/Clinical Professor. This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track clinical faculty position with a projected start date of July 1, 2027. The clinic is expected to open for enrollment in fall 2028 and will give JD and Tax LLM students opportunities to work with and represent low-income clients in individual or small-business disputes involving state and federal taxes. The founding director will determine and develop the clinic’s structure, scope, and direction in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Experiential Education and the Assistant Dean for Graduate, International, and Online Programs. The director will teach the clinic’s seminar and fieldwork components and coordinate the clinic’s operation and development. During academic year 2027–2028, the director will develop the clinic and its curriculum, teach a tax law course, and run a VITA site. Beginning fall 2028, the director will teach at least one clinic seminar and one clinic fieldwork course each semester and serve as instructor of record for other tax clinic courses as needed. Boston University values openness and access, academic freedom, free inquiry, and the robust exchange of ideas. The university seeks faculty who contribute through innovative scholarship, engaged teaching, and participation in the intellectual life of the university.
