About The Position

The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO, University of Ottawa is recruiting two full-time Clinical Associates within the Division of Hematology/Oncology to fill a renewable 1-year term beginning as soon as the position is filled. The ideal candidate will be Royal College (Hematology/Oncology) certified or equivalent, who can provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services for infants and children with cancer and/or non-malignant hematologic disorders. The candidate will be expected to provide weekend daytime coverage as needed. While English is the language of the health record, functionality in French is an asset.

The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO, the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. Together, we provide outstanding patient care, leading research, and quality pediatric medical education. The Department of Pediatrics provides health care to newborns, children, and youth of the Ottawa area, as well as those from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario (population of approximately 1.8 million). The Department of Pediatrics has 18 distinct divisions, which includes Hematology/Oncology.
The Division of Hematology/Oncology provides clinical care for general hematology/oncology as well as specialized care for children and adolescents with leukemia, lymphoma, brain tumors, solid tumors, hemoglobinopathies, bleeding and thrombotic disorders, bone marrow failure syndromes and conditions that require post-stem cell and/or cellular therapy care.

Clinical Associates joining our team will have a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of our emerging divisional programs through multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical innovation, and quality improvement. The role is particularly well-suited for physicians interested in developing an academic career in pediatric hematology/oncology or clinicians looking to build expertise in advanced therapies within a supportive, mentorship-focused academic environment. This position also offers an excellent environment for pediatricians seeking to build hematology/oncology expertise, develop procedural skills, engage in academic medicine, and help shape the future of pediatric hematology and oncology care at CHEO.

CHEO has an active and accredited Pediatric Hematology/Oncology residency training program. The division is also involved in education for pediatric residents and medical students. Requirements

• MD and eligible for licensing in the Province of Ontario.
• Royal College (Hematology/Oncology) certified or equivalent.
• Functionality in French is an asset.

Nice To Haves

• Canadian citizens and permanent residents (preference will be given).
• Certification with the Royal College of Physicians of Surgeons (Pediatric Hematology/Oncology) (priority will be given).
• Equivalent training in other countries/jurisdictions will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services for infants and children with cancer and/or non-malignant hematologic disorders.
• Provide weekend daytime coverage as needed.
• Provide Inpatient Hematology/Oncology service coverage.
• Provide Outpatient Hematology/Oncology service.
• Provide Procedure room coverage for lumbar punctures with intrathecal chemotherapy and bone marrow evaluations.
• Provide weekend clinical coverage, depending on divisional needs.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of emerging divisional programs through multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical innovation, and quality improvement.
• Engage in academic medicine.
• Help shape the future of pediatric hematology and oncology care at CHEO.
