About The Position

The Clinical Assistant 3 holds advanced medical knowledge, experience, and leadership responsibilities, fulfilling all duties of a Clinical Assistant 2 plus additional tasks due to extra training and certifications. Clinical Assistant 3 supports patients of all ages in ambulatory care clinics, helping maintain efficient operations and patient flow. Responsibilities include administering basic clinical care, handling administrative and data management tasks, and recording patient history and information in charts. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Clinical Assistant Certification
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Clinical Competency completed within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
  • Meets two of the following: Holds official leadership position in clinic, Vaccine coordinator role, Preceptor status, Employed with SEARHC >2 years, Obtains and maintains additional professional certifications such as CHAP, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, Instructor certification, Additional leadership role or clinical responsibility as identified by supervisor
  • Knowledge of clinic procedures for receiving and following through on a patient visit and any related clinic treatments, procedures.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate vital signs and behaviors.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and SEARHC Policies.
  • Skills in communication and use of customer service skills.
  • Computer application skills sufficient to utilize medical databases in a competent manner.
  • Ability to operate medical equipment including blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter, EKG machine, etc.
  • Ability to learn and use various EMR systems and accurately record patient data.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with all members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately collect and document information in patient chart.
  • Keeps patient records in order with all forms properly identified; copies and compiles other medical data as needed.
  • Assures patient medication and immunization records are current.
  • Recognizes signs or symptoms requiring prompt intervention and acts appropriately.
  • Demonstrates ability to smoothly manage patient care duties while maintaining clinic flow.
  • Report, and when appropriate, record any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients, unusual incidents or breeches in safety.
  • Observe patients to ensure children, elderly, or impaired patients who require observation or assistance have someone in attendance.
  • Set up equipment and supplies for routine exams and minor procedures.
  • Assist Provider as directed and trained within the scope of practice.
  • Assist clinic nurse as needed.
  • Provide immunizations, injections as ordered by Provider.
  • Prepare patient for and assist with procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries.
  • Provide specimen collection for Point of Care Testing (POCT).
  • Follows protocol for collecting, labeling and transporting specimens.
  • Assist provider in identifying patients overdue for immunizations and preventative health maintenance including routine, urgent and emergent appointments with appropriate provider and clinic.
  • Rely on extensive medical knowledge, experience in medical records, and sound judgment.
  • Efficient multitasking, clear communication with diverse staff, and attention to detail for accurate data collection and regulatory compliance.
  • Quickly identify symptoms needing urgent attention and deliver compassionate care to patients in varying health conditions.
