About The Position

OrthoCarolina is seeking a Clinical Assistant for their Concord Day OUC office. The schedule is 9am-9pm on a rotating basis (Monday-Wednesday, then Thursday-Friday). The Clinical Assistant is responsible for providing and coordinating orthopedic patient care, including routine office procedures, testing, patient teaching, effective communication, and partnering with physicians/mid-level providers.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program for medical assistants, athletic training, or nursing, OR Experience plus certification
  • CMA/RMA must be registered/certified through one of the following national organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National HealthCareer Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
  • EMTs will need Emergency Medical Technician certification
  • ATCs will need to be board certified as Athletic Trainer
  • Graduate of an accredited program for medical office assistants or college degree in biological sciences
  • > 2 years medical office experience
  • Certification from American Association of Medical Assistants or Registered through American Medical Technologies
  • Registered or Licensed Nurse
  • Athletic Trainer
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain
  • Reliable transportation to travel to meetings and other offices
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations
  • Knowledge of EHR system
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly and respond well to questions with patients, physicians/ mid-level providers and co-workers
  • Ability to document in EHR in a clear, accurate and concise manner, using acceptable abbreviations
  • Ability to use the EHR to reflect the standards of use at the locations where assigned
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality
  • Completes quality assurance documentation as required
  • Ability to triage patient telephone calls
  • Gather pertinent facts; be as accurate and concise as possible in order to assess patient health status and act as liaison between patient and provider
  • Knowledge of when a provider needs to be consulted
  • Ability to clearly and effectively educate patients, families and staff regarding the full scope of patient care needs related to the care of patients with orthopedic problems
  • Ability to coordinate care of patients with others
  • Skill in casting techniques and patient education regarding cast care
  • Skill in properly applying DME, instructing patient on the proper use and care and understanding the process of billing for DME products

Responsibilities

  • Updating clinical notes in electronic medical systems
  • Completing phone triage
  • Casting and bracing
  • Performing routine office procedures
  • Providing patient education
  • Collaborating with and providing clinical and administrative support to the healthcare practitioner
  • Greeting patients and escorting them to exam rooms
  • Obtaining and documenting past medical/surgical histories, vitals, patient medications, and allergies in the EHR system (EPIC)
  • Assisting the practitioner with patient examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures
  • Cleaning and sterilizing rooms and equipment after each encounter
  • Suture/staple removal
  • Assisting with casting/bracing
  • Assisting with injections
  • Educating patients through booklets/instruction sheets prior to minor procedures
  • Ordering supplies
  • Stocking rooms
  • Responding to patient messages
  • Handling prescription refill requests
  • Filing documents
  • Monitoring work queues in the EHR system
