About The Position

Responsible for providing and coordinating orthopedic patient care which includes performing routine office procedures and testing, participating in patient teaching, completing triage which may include the delivery, management and coordination of telephone calls and voicemail. Communicating effectively with others and assisting the physician/mid-level provider in the delivery of patient care. The schedule is Monday – Friday, 8a-5p. The Clinical Assistant is responsible for providing and coordinating orthopedic patient care which includes performing routine office procedures and testing, participating in patient teaching, communicating effectively with others, and partnering with the physician/mid-level provider in the delivery of patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program for medical assistants, athletic training, or nursing.
  • Experience plus certification.
  • CMA/RMA must be registered/certified through one of the following national organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National HealthCareer Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
  • EMTs will need Emergency Medical Technician certification.
  • ATCs will need to be board certified as Athletic Trainer
  • Knowledge of EMR (Epic)
  • Ability to triage patient telephone calls.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively educate patients, families and staff regarding the full scope of patient care needs related to the care of patients with orthopedic problems.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly.
  • Respond well to questions with patients, physicians/ mid-level providers and co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Updating clinical notes in electronic medical systems
  • Completing phone triage
  • Casting and bracing
  • Performing routine office procedures
  • Providing patient education
  • Collaborating with and providing clinical and administrative support to the healthcare practitioner to ensure the delivery of high quality, compassionate patient care.
  • Greeting patients as they escort them to the exam room.
  • Obtaining and documenting past medical/surgical histories, vitals, patient medications and allergies in the EHR system (EPIC).
  • Assisting the practitioner with patient examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures.
  • Cleaning and sterilizing rooms and equipment after each encounter.
  • Suture/staple removal
  • Assisting with casting/bracing
  • Assisting with injections
  • Educating patients through booklets/instruction sheets prior to minor procedures in accordance with physician instruction.
  • Orchestrating administrative duties which may include ordering supplies, stocking rooms, responding to patient messages, prescription refill requests, filing documents, and monitoring work queues in the EHR system.
