About The Position

The Department of Medical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin, Madison School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time position within the Small Animal Internal Medicine (SAIM) service at UW Veterinary Care. This position is available at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the clinical track or tenure track, tailored to the individual candidate's qualifications and interests. The new hire will join a collaborative SAIM team composed of four clinical track faculty, residents, interns, certified veterinary technicians, a veterinary assistant, and a client care liaison. Clinical service responsibilities include providing high-quality patient care and hands-on training for veterinary students, interns, and residents. Strong communication skills and a commitment to consulting with referring veterinarians and clients are essential. The SAIM service manages approximately 2,500 cases annually. The School of Veterinary Medicine offers a collegial, collaborative environment with board-certified experts in allied services and a dedicated LCSW for client support. In 2024, UW Veterinary Care opened a new state-of-the-art hospital, providing SAIM with access to advanced equipment for interventional radiology, endoscopy, PET/CT imaging, and extracorporeal therapies. SAIM also treats cats with I-131.

Requirements

  • Board certification or board eligibility in Small Animal Internal Medicine is required by start date.
  • Wisconsin Veterinary License Required.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain licensure to practice veterinary medicine, by start date.
  • Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree, by start date.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical service to the SAIM section of UW Veterinary Care for up to 24 weeks a year.
  • Training and supervision of residents and interns.
  • Clinical teaching of 4th-year veterinary students.
  • Supervision of, training of residents in, and performance of endoscopy and other interventional procedures.
  • Didactic and laboratory course teaching in the preclinical curriculum (asynchronous and synchronous, totaling 15-20 hours dependent upon needs of the curriculum and applicant experience).
  • Contribute to and participate in basic or clinical research in the SAIM section, including mentoring of house officers in research.
  • Involvement in committees at the Department, School, and University level.
  • Involvement nationally at the professional committee level.
  • Participate in continuing education programs for veterinary practitioners in Wisconsin and beyond.
