About The Position

The Department of Social Work and Anthropology at Auburn University at Montgomery invites applications for a 9-month Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work to begin January 2027 (preferred) or August 2027. This role involves teaching both online and in-person courses, with a commitment to social work education, social justice, field education, and community service. Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all members of its community. The university recognizes the value of diversity in enriching understanding and problem-solving capabilities. The BSW program at AUM is CSWE-accredited and is experiencing rapid growth. It is grounded in a liberal arts perspective, aiming to educate ethical and competent social workers who advocate for social, environmental, and economic justice at all system levels. The program emphasizes professional ethics, critical thinking, lifelong learning, evidence-based practice, a strengths-based perspective, justice, service, culturally-responsive practice, and social change to promote a more equitable society. The Department of Social Work and Anthropology currently comprises nine full-time faculty and is projected to expand. In addition to majors, the department offers minors in Child Advocacy Studies, Social Work, and Anthropology, along with interdisciplinary certificates in Gerontology and Museum Studies and Public Humanities.

Requirements

  • An MSW from a CSWE-accredited program, DSW, or a PhD in Social Work.
  • A minimum of two years post-MSW full-time social work practice.
  • LMSW.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with faculty and administration across the university as well as community partners.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching core and elective undergraduate Social Work courses, particularly practice courses.
  • Maintaining a productive community-involvement agenda.
  • Engaging in retention and recruitment efforts.
  • Providing professional advising for online and on-campus students.
  • Assisting with maintaining the program’s accreditation.
  • Contributing to the service mission of the campus.
