About The Position

The Department of Psychological Science at Loyola Marymount University invites applications for two full-time Clinical Assistant Professor positions, with a start date of August 15, 2026 academic year. Clinical Faculty at LMU are defined as “faculty who have substantial expertise as professionals and practitioners outside the sphere of academe” (LMU Faculty Handbook). This is a non-tenure track Clinical faculty appointment with an initial appointment term of up to two years. Continuation beyond the initial term, if any, will be determined based on institutional needs and applicable review processes. This full-time, 9-month academic appointment (August – May) has an annual salary paid over 12 consecutive months, allowing for continuous benefits coverage. The area of specialization is open. Applicants must have completed their doctorate in Psychology or a closely related field at the time of application. They must have served as instructor of record for at least one course in psychology, and taught in-person (i.e., not online) at an accredited college or university. They should have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. Clinical faculty at LMU are distinguished by their ability to teach interactive, student-centered, courses that incorporate experiential learning . Candidates should have experience in or connections to some community context (e.g., technology or aerospace industry, government, business, education, mental-health care, civic/social-service, etc.) and be able to leverage or build such partnerships to enhance some of their course offerings with experiential learning opportunities. Experiential learning can take many forms; we welcome creative approaches, and candidates will have support to align their interests with these course offerings. In addition, applicants should be able to contribute to some of our lower division offerings (General Psychology, Statistics, Research Methods, or Brain and Behavior), and/or upper division offerings (Lifespan Development, Cognitive Science, Clinical Psychology are a few examples). Applicants whose scholarly training speaks to issues of social justice, who have an orientation towards LMU's mission , are especially sought. Clinical Assistant Professors in our department teach 3 courses in fall semester and 3 in spring semester. The expectation is that their effort will primarily be dedicated to teaching. Moreover, they share in academic advising of our majors and are required to serve on departmental service committees.
