About The Position

The College of Optometry at The Ohio State University invites applications for one or more Clinical Assistant Professor of Practice positions. These associated- faculty roles support the College’s clinical, teaching, and service missions through patient care and clinical education of students. Faculty in this role will provide high‑quality patient care consistent with current standards of optometric practice while serving as clinical attendings for student interns. The primary clinical assignment will be within the Primary Care Service, with potential opportunities to contribute to other specialty services—such as Contact Lens or Community Outreach Care—based on the candidate’s training, interests, and clinic needs. Duties may include patient care at the main campus clinic or satellite clinics, oversight of student clinicians, and/or delivery of clinical laboratory instruction. Candidates may also engage in scholarly and professional development activities, which may include peer‑reviewed publications, poster presentations, case reports, lectures, and the pursuit of a fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in clinical education, patient care, and service to the profession. Up to 0.6 FTE is available across these positions. Final FTE distribution will be determined based on candidate availability and clinic needs, and multiple hires may be made from this posting. Individual hires may assume smaller portions of the total available FTE depending on their availability.

Requirements

  • OD degree from an accredited school or college of optometry
  • Completion of an optometry residency or equivalent clinical experience
  • Eligibility for Ohio optometry licensure (therapeutic licensure required before start date)

Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality patient care in accordance with current standards of optometric practice.
  • Deliver clinical instruction and supervision to student interns in assigned services, primarily the Primary Care Service.
  • Contribute to additional specialty services (e.g., Contact Lens, Community Outreach Care) as appropriate based on credentials and clinic needs.
  • Participate in teaching activities, including clinical laboratory instruction when assigned.
  • Engage in scholarship or professional development activities such as publications, presentations, case reports, and the pursuit of a fellowship in the AAO.
  • Support the academic, clinical, and service missions of the College of Optometry.
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators to advance patient care and student learning.
