About The Position

Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a non-tenure/clinical-track faculty position in Equine Primary Care/General Practice. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, highly functioning team that focuses on providing the highest level of patient-centered care for equine patients while instructing veterinary students on rotations in the Large Animal Clinic. This position emphasizes clinical service and clinical teaching, with up to 90% of the appointment devoted to these responsibilities at the Large Animal Clinic (LAC). The remaining 10% effort will support preclinical laboratory instruction, university service, and scholarly activities. The successful candidate will provide equine clinical service on ambulatory basis and occasionally on haul-in outpatient clinics. A well-stocked practice vehicle and technical assistance will be provided. About Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Health Institute: Midwestern University is a private, not-for-profit organization that provides graduate and post-graduate education in the health sciences. The University has two campuses, one in Downers Grove, Illinois and the other in Glendale, Arizona. The university offers graduate programs in osteopathic medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant studies, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing anesthesia, cardiovascular perfusion, podiatry, optometry, clinical psychology, speech language pathology, and biomedical sciences. Over 500 full-time faculty members and 400 staff members are dedicated to the education and development of our students in an environment that encourages learning, respect for all members of the health care team, service, interdisciplinary scholarly activity, and personal growth. The addition of veterinary medicine on the Glendale campus (fully accredited by the Council on Education in 2018) provides an excellent opportunity to train students following the principles of One Health. The Animal Health Institute is comprised of the Large Animal Clinic (LAC), the Diagnostic Pathology Center, and the Companion Animal Clinic. The LAC is a large animal teaching facility housing small herds of cattle and horses. This facility includes a clinical skills teaching laboratory hosting a variety of large animal simulators and models, arenas, and live-animal indoor and outdoor teaching and treatment areas for haul-in patients. The LAC is fully equipped with on-site and portable ultrasound machines, portable radiographic machines, endoscopy, laser, and other patient-side chemistry analyzers. The Equine Service is supported by other services including anesthesia, surgery, veterinary diagnostic lab, clinical pathology, and microbiology lab. The successful applicant would be supported by two board-certified surgeons and internal medicine specialists with years of experience. Mentorship will be offered. The adjacent pathology center and companion animal clinic are state-of-the-art facilities. Pathology includes a 5300 sq-ft necropsy floor, gross pathology teaching theatre, fully equipped histopathology laboratory, an 800 sq-ft BSL3-capable necropsy suite, and 1200 sq ft of classroom/teaching space. The Companion Animal Clinic is a 111,000 sq. ft. modern and innovative veterinary hospital for small animals.

Requirements

DVM or equivalent degree.
Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the State of Arizona.
At least two years of experience in Equine Ambulatory Care/General Practice.
Evidence of excellent clinical and communication skills.
Strong interest and proficiency in equine dentistry, along with lameness, and reproduction.
Desire and motivation to provide high-quality patient-centered care.
Strong commitment to understanding and meeting the needs of students and joy in teaching.
Excellent medical records and sustainable practice.
Collaborative mindset and flexibility to foster a team-approach to teaching and service.
Belief and willingness to promote a positive work culture and mental well-being.
Current Arizona Driver’s license with no major motor vehicle accidents or violations on record.

Responsibilities
