About The Position

SUNY Sullivan is seeking a part-time Clinical Instructor for the Respiratory Care Program. This role involves supervising, instructing, and guiding students in applying respiratory procedures to patients in a real medical environment. The instructor must have a thorough understanding of patient medications, treatments, and diagnoses, and be able to relate these to students' problem-solving, critical thinking, and skill development. Clinical assignments are scheduled during the Fall and Spring Semesters on various days and times.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Maintain an unencumbered Respiratory Therapy license in the State of N.Y.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching.
  • Possess the ability to interact with a diverse student and staff population effectively.
  • Possess a strong commitment to student success.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Evidence of current BLS certification, independent malpractice insurance, and membership to the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC) are preferred

Responsibilities

  • Report to the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Be familiar and comply with clinical affiliate policies and procedures.
  • Instruct students of these policies and procedures and ensure that they comply.
  • Prior to clinical shift, coordinate with Respiratory Staff and/or RT Supervisor the patient care unit that the students will cover and develop student assignments.
  • Assign students to specific patient procedures and therapies. Instruct and observe that students follow proper application of patient care.
  • At the end of each shift, assist the students in giving a verbal and/or written report to the clinical site staff member for each patient. The report should follow the SBAR format.
  • Document and submit daily performance of each student by completing the daily evaluation form.
  • Discuss instructional issues, individual student learning needs and student progress during confidential clinical instructor meetings with the Director of Clinical Education.
  • Serve as a professional role model and representative of the Respiratory Care Program.
