About The Position

Requirements

  • BLS certified (or obtain within one month of hire).
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of first aid.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and instruments used in a medical office.
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory methods.
  • Knowledge of universal blood and body fluid precautions.
  • Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of established protocol for sterilization techniques.
  • Knowledge of established protocol for storing chemicals and gases.
  • Knowledge of restrictions imposed by various managed care carriers.
  • Knowledge of various forms inherent to the profession.
  • Knowledge of patient confidentiality regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff members.
  • Ability to create a responsive caring environment for patients.
  • Ability to respond promptly to physician’s directions.
  • Ability to maintain medical records in a concise and accurate manner.
  • Ability to employ correct aseptic techniques in preparation of instruments & equipment.
  • Ability to react quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to recognize and prevent possible safety hazards.
  • Ability to ensure proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and facilitate patient education.
  • Ability to act as an advocate and assist the physician in meeting patient needs.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and escorts them to examination/procedure rooms.
  • Prepares patients for examination by obtaining and recording vital signs, weight, chief complaint, and other pertinent information.
  • Performs point-of-care lab testing and patient treatment as ordered by the physician.
  • Prepares patients for and assists physicians with treatments and procedures.
  • Collects specimens following established policies and ensures accurate processing for laboratory transportation.
  • Facilitates communication from internal and external sources and takes appropriate action.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment and replenishes supplies.
  • Provides instruction and education to patients and families within scope of practice.
  • Administers medications by all routes.
  • Facilitates patient access to prescription refills and assists with indigent programs.
  • Notifies physician when a patient is ready for examination.
  • Organizes and maintains an inventory of medications, disposing of expired medications.
  • Assists in the completion of physician-required forms.
  • Cleans and sanitizes rooms and equipment.
  • Tracks all lab results and documents them in the patient chart.
  • Adheres to OSHA and sterilization guidelines.
  • Reviews charts for upcoming appointments and pending results.
  • Files patient-related correspondence and ensures charts are appropriately filed.
  • Records services rendered and checks for accuracy.
  • Completes physician orders for ancillary tests, surgeries, or referrals.
  • Follows confidentiality and security rules.
  • Directs patients to the exit area post-procedure.
  • Assists in the collection of statistical data.
  • Answers telephone, screens calls, and directs messages.
  • Travels to other IPG offices when needed.
  • Performs other services deemed reasonable by the physician or practice manager.
