About The Position

The Clinic Registered Nurse at Christophel Clinic is responsible for delivering evidence-based nursing care under the supervision of a provider, adhering to the Iowa Nursing Practice Act, ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and ANA Code of Ethics. This role involves direct and indirect patient care, observation, and counseling for patients and their families. The RN will communicate patient status changes to providers and healthcare team members, and will also serve as a mentor and consultant to other clinic nursing staff, contributing to their clinical development.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Registered Nurses.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.
  • Ability to learn and navigate computer systems, including online training modules, employee timesheet, and performance appraisal system.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain patients’ electronic records, accurately documenting care and services provided in a timely manner and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and/or tests, and assist with exams and minor office procedures as needed.
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care, demonstrating knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures, considering age-specific needs and clinical condition.
  • Administer/refill prescribed medications and treatments according to approved nursing techniques and provider orders.
  • Maintain accurate patient charges for services and equipment used.
  • Observe and monitor patient condition, notifying the responsible provider of changes, activities, or unanticipated reactions to care.
  • Maintain responsibility for the welfare of assigned patients, including critical and life-threatening conditions, and perform life-saving measures if necessary.
  • Triage patient telephone calls, assess condition, and advise on symptomatic treatment or schedule appointments with a provider.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, families, providers, outside agencies, and hospital personnel regarding patient care.
  • Work with other nursing staff to maintain continuity of care.
  • Use tact, patience, and understanding when dealing with patients, treating them with respect and dignity.
  • Provide teaching for patients and family members, adapting to their language and understanding, and reinforcing teaching as needed.
  • Take responsibility for problem-solving regarding patient care, initiating contact with appropriate resources, and taking action for identified concerns.
  • Exercise independent judgment in patient care and seek assistance from appropriate personnel or manager when needed.
  • Act as a clinical resource, sharing knowledge with other clinic staff and interacting effectively to ensure safe, quality patient care.
  • Participate in the evaluation and monitoring of nursing care quality within the clinic and collaborate with staff to structure patient care.
  • Assist in developing strategies to improve the clinical competencies of nursing staff and others in the clinic.
  • Complete and maintain a professional portfolio.
  • Maintain the condition of equipment and supplies related to patient care, managing and operating equipment safely.
  • Provide for the repair, restocking, or replacement of supplies and equipment, and conduct monthly audits of supplies/pharmaceutical samples, removing outdated items.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and effectively perform patient referral processes, including scheduling tests/procedures and obtaining prior authorization from insurance companies.
  • Document telephone encounters, capturing pertinent data and notifying the responsible provider of patient conditions or reactions.
  • Maintain the eCW fax in-box, follow up on all lab and diagnostic imaging results, outstanding orders, and ensure all orders and prescriptions are electronically transmitted or faxed daily.
  • Perform Lab QA checks, lab collection, and processing procedures.
  • Adhere to all applicable WHC and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the supply ordering process, including the removal of expired supplies.
  • Perform IRIS/VFC reconciliation and documentation.
  • Assist providers in maintaining the CDSS/Alerts/Recall System.
  • Scan incoming or outgoing paper documents, organize them within the EMR, check for accuracy and clarity, and manipulate them for readability.
  • Utilize Standard Precautions as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate appropriate instrument safety precautions/care when cleaning, disinfecting, and preparing instruments for sterilization.
  • Carry out medical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
