The Clinic Phlebotomist Float will be responsible for verifying positive patient identification, assessing patient reactions to specimen procurement, and performing venipuncture and collecting other specimens from patients of all age groups. This role involves obtaining specimens according to priority and scheduled draw times, ensuring proper labeling and suitability for testing, and resolving any identification or requisition problems. The phlebotomist will also perform limited testing under CLIA guidelines, answer and screen telephone calls, assist with inventory, and provide support for billing and other business functions. Additionally, they will accept, receive, sort, package, track, and process specimens for testing, respond to specimen procurement requests, order and verify test requests, document information for quality assurance, run quality control checks, and notify providers of abnormal results. The role includes performing laboratory result entry, proficiency testing, and reviewing pending and management reports. The phlebotomist will also instruct employees and students in phlebotomy, data entry, and specimen processing functions, and must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
