The Clinic Phlebotomist is responsible for verifying positive patient identification, assessing patient reactions to specimen procurement, and performing venipuncture and collecting other specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocols. This role also involves performing limited testing under CLIA guidelines, answering and screening telephone calls, assisting with inventory, and processing specimens for testing. Additionally, the phlebotomist will order and verify test requests, document information for quality assurance, run quality control checks, and notify providers of stat, critical, and abnormal results. The position also includes performing laboratory result entry, proficiency testing, reviewing reports, and instructing employees and students in phlebotomy and related functions. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served.
