About The Position

RiverView Health, a community-owned, membership-based non-profit organization established in 1898, is the sole community hospital in Crookston, MN. It operates a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital, a chemical dependency outpatient treatment program (RiverView Recovery Center), RiverView Home Care, and five primary care and specialty clinics. This full-time position is for a Patient Access Representative at the Crookston Clinic, covering shifts between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with a weekend rotation every six weeks from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The role involves answering phones, scheduling patients, registering patients, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, obtaining necessary signatures, and safeguarding collected monies. The position also requires cross-training for Patient Access responsibilities in the Emergency Department when needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum two (2) years of customer service experience
  • Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Ensure accurate data entry for patient registration and scheduling
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Good communication skills (verbal & written), organization, leadership, and problem-solving

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in health care setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • 1+ years of experience in a Patient Access setting
  • 1+ years of experience with an Electronic Medical Record such as Epic
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance

Responsibilities

  • Answers phones and schedules patients.
  • Greets and registers patients while collecting and accurately entering all information required for visit.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with patients and families, physicians, nurses and insurance companies.
  • Performs insurance verification either real time or manual verification for eligibility.
  • Performs point of service, collection of co-pays and other patient liability.
  • Obtains signatures for all necessary documents.
  • Safeguards and reconciles all monies collected daily in compliance to cash handling policies and procedures.
  • This position will be cross trained to the Emergency Department for Patient Access responsibilities in that area when needed.
