About The Position

The clinic nurse collaborates with medical and psychiatric providers in the evaluation and treatment of patients in person, electronically, or via phone, within the nursing scope of practice. The nurse performs general nursing procedures, administers required immunizations and treatments, and provides education to enhance patient knowledge.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Dakota and Minnesota or eligible for licensure prior to start date OR Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of North Dakota and Minnesota or eligible for licensure prior to start date AND two years of related experience
CPR certified, or obtain certification within 30 days of employment
General computer experience
Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
Ability to critically analyze data and processes to improve operations and patient care
Communicate effectively with individuals with diverse backgrounds
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Knowledge of health issues, needs and concerns of college students
Ability to prioritize tasks, have good interpersonal skills, and be able to work collaboratively with other departments and units
Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Assist provider in evaluation and treatment of patients, including practicing within professional, ethical, and legal parameters, maintaining strict patient confidentiality, providing nonjudgmental care and sensitivity, communicating effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, maintaining accurate electronic health records (EHR), interviewing patients, recording vital signs, reviewing and updating medication lists and allergies, administering treatments and intravenous (IV) therapy, performing preliminary procedures for FAA/ATC, ROTC, GYN, and physical exams, prepping patients for procedures, obtaining informed consent, providing pre and post-procedure care and education, assisting with surgical, casting, and splinting procedures, assisting in referrals to other specialties, arranging for emergent transfer to acute care settings, utilizing standing orders to administer treatments, medications, vaccinations, and to order lab and x-ray studies, ordering T-Spot testing, preparing specimens for lab analysis, dispensing and fitting crutches, performing audiometry, vision, or additional tests, performing peak flow testing and nebulizer treatments, and providing emergency services.

Educate and enhance patient’s knowledge of medical and psychiatric conditions by providing knowledgeable, appropriate health advice, promoting prevention practices, educating patients in treatment of disease or injury, assuring patient understanding of conditions, providing patients with information sheets, brochures, and online references, promoting patient awareness of early signs and symptoms of complications, and using available communication resources to assure comprehension of care and treatment explanations.
Perform general nursing procedures within the scope of nursing practice to address clinic needs, including participating in annual review and revision of nursing procedures, opening and closing clinic, cleaning patient care areas, using appropriate personal protective equipment, replenishing medical and housekeeping supplies, performing routine assignments for clinic maintenance, monitoring supply/implant inventory, and reporting defective and/or expired medical devices, supplies, equipment, medication/vaccines.
Provide assistance to Immunization Compliance Officer to assure Measles/Mumps/Rubella, Meningitis immunizations, and Tuberculosis screening requirements are in compliance with North Dakota University System policy, including screening health history and immunization forms, counseling students, participating in mass immunization clinics, assessing indications for TB testing, and assisting the Immunization Compliance Nurse.
Other duties as assigned per needs of Student Health Services, UND and greater community, including seeking and leading progressive practice opportunities, providing outreach education, and collaborating with the greater Grand Forks community in public health practices and initiatives.
