Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a clinical setting is preferred, especially within a Rural Health Clinic.
  • Hold an active Medical Assistant-Certified credential issued by the Washington State Department of Health.
  • Medical Assistant- Registered should have a plan to become certified within 6 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations/procedures by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Perform phlebotomy and collect other specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper labeling and handling.
  • Prepare and perform waived lab testing.
  • Administer medications and vaccines as directed by healthcare providers, following safety protocols.
  • Assist healthcare practitioners during examinations and minor surgical procedures.
  • Call patients with results from labs and other studies after the provider has reviewed the results.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and maintain cleanliness in examination rooms.
  • Document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record.
  • Manage patient appointments, ensuring efficient use of clinic resources.
  • Take steps to complete referrals to specialist providers and notifies patient of progress and coordinates with patient to make appointments at specialist provider’s office.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic health records (EHRs) in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist with billing processes, including coding for insurance claims and patient billing inquiries.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, and preventive healthcare practices.
