About The Position

This role involves providing urgent care services as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The LPN will be responsible for assessing patient needs, initiating emergency procedures when necessary, and functioning within payor regulations. Key duties include facilitating interdisciplinary communication, managing the electronic medical record, evaluating patient understanding of treatment plans, assisting with procedures and diagnostic equipment, maintaining aseptic technique, documenting patient interactions, reporting results, and performing basic nursing functions under provider supervision. The role also includes marginal functions such as cross-coverage in other clinic areas, equipment maintenance, and participation in performance improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Current LPN license issued by the State of Iowa
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Recognize and assess urgent/emergency needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Function within payor regulations.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary communication and utilize the health care team in patient assessment.
  • Assess learning needs of the patient and family and provide accurate information.
  • Follow clinic procedures for organization and management of the electronic medical record.
  • Evaluate patient and family understanding of treatment plans and instructions.
  • Assist with procedures, exams, and operation of diagnostic equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures, and medication administration.
  • Accurately and legibly document all patient interactions in the electronic medical record.
  • Report results and pertinent information to patients and health care team members.
  • Function according to the limitations of the LPN license or certification.
  • Perform basic nursing functions (vitals, rooming, assist with procedures, immunizations, medication injections) under provider direction and supervision.
  • Maintain professional appearance of patient exam and procedure rooms.
  • Provide cross-coverage in other clinic areas as team needs.
  • Follow equipment maintenance protocol, identify problems, and coordinate repairs.
  • Participate in Performance Improvement projects.
