The Clinic Lab Technician will be proficient in the procurement of blood samples via venous and capillary techniques, from patients ranging in age from infant to geriatric. They will utilize the Laboratory Information System for activating, ordering, and resulting laboratory orders from providers and to result laboratory tests. The technician will also educate patients in the proper collection of specimens such as urine, stool and sputum, and review orders from providers, maintaining accuracy in ordering tests; occasionally must call providers' offices to obtain orders. Processing specimens in the appropriate way, including looking up specimen requirements, centrifuging and separating as necessary, and storing at the appropriate temperature to maintain sample integrity and testing acceptability is also a key responsibility. Additionally, they will ready specimens for transfer to reference laboratories, including completing the required paperwork for transfer and ensuring STAT specimens are processed and transported in a timely manner. The role involves performing both waived and moderately complex CLIA testing in hematology, urinalysis, and serology areas under the guidance and supervision of an MLT or MT, and keeping accurate records, such as temperature monitoring, quality control for all laboratory testing and daily, weekly and monthly maintenance. The technician will work as a team in a fast-paced environment to care for patients while demonstrating Genesis Health System's standards of behavior.
