About The Position

This mid-shift position is responsible for processing, triaging, accessioning, and troubleshooting all incoming specimens received at UF Health Pathology Laboratories. Duties include: Operating centrifuge, aliquoting and processing all types of Clinical Pathology specimens including but not limited to; blood, serum, saliva, sputum, viral transport media, culture swabs, etc. Assigning each specimen a number and label materials accordingly, collecting and placing test orders, verifying billing codes, , verifying specimen stability requirements, sending specimens to outside labs, maintaining files, verifying appropriate materials received for each test, routing samples to the correct testing department and coordinating specimens to be sent to outside laboratories. Other duties include testing coordination, preparing result reports and distributing the reports. In addition, this position is responsible for maintenance of the UF Health Pathology Laboratories' files, data, and paperwork as required by regulatory agencies and to support the research, education and clinical mission of the laboratory and department. This position would be to work during the mid-shift but may vary depending on the needs of the department. Occasional holiday and weekend coverage may be assigned Clinical Pathology Specimen Triage/Receiving: Prepare Clinical Pathology laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various staging areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations such as staging of specimens, centrifuge, separate serum, and blood smears. Aliquots sample for departments. Prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and document problem specimens. Clinical Pathology Problem Documenting and Follow-up: Any such duties needed to keep the accessioning and processing area running smoothly and performing the work in an accurate, organized and timely manner. Coordinating special testing, such as, athletic, molecular and QFT. Monitor courier drop offs and ensure runs are not missed. Monitor expected list to ensure everything is received and communicated. Monitoring emails throughout the shift to ensure information is relayed and received in a timely manner. Keep track of issues and communicate with client services and supervisors when frequent issues occur. Duties include assisting with oversight and daily processes for the Triage/Accessioning and Processing section. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
