About The Position

Ever wanted a job where "watch people scale a 30-foot wall safely" is in your actual job description? At Countryside YMCA, our Climbing Wall Attendants keep the energy high and the safety standards higher, guiding members of all ages through the ins and outs of indoor rock climbing. You'll be the go-to person at the wall — checking gear, running belays, and making sure every climber (first-timer or seasoned pro) has a great, safe experience.

Requirements

• At least 17 years old
• Solid working knowledge of climbing technique, belaying, route ratings, and safety gear
• Current CPR/First Aid and Belay certification
• A knack for talking with people of all ages and turning a concern into a resolved issue
• Reliable attendance
• Employees 18+ must clear a criminal background check
• Good vision (close, distance, peripheral, depth) is a must for keeping an eye on climbers.

Responsibilities

• Enforcing climbing wall policies and keeping the space running smoothly
• Belaying and spotting climbers, including auto-belay supervision
• Teaching YMCA's climbing curriculum to new participants
• Checking equipment and the facility at open/close and flagging issues right away
• Confirming who's eligible to climb and walking members through harnesses, belay devices, and shoes
• Keeping attendance logs, equipment inventory, and belay certification records up to date
• Filling out required forms and checklists accurately
• Knowing and prepared to execute emergency response procedures
