About The Position

As part of the Enterprise Sustainability Team, you'll join a group responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing CIBC’s bank-wide Sustainability and Climate strategy, governance framework, and disclosures. The team acts as a hub of expertise, collaborating with Strategic Business Units and Functional Groups to drive cross-functional sustainability and climate initiatives and ensure alignment throughout the Bank. In your role as Climate Strategy Consultant, you’ll contribute to the research, development, and alignment of CIBC’s climate strategy. You’ll provide project management support, apply your sustainability and climate-related data analytics skills to derive insights, and inform decision-making. By offering climate subject matter expertise, you’ll help identify and drive climate initiatives in partnership with business colleagues. Your work will support the ongoing development and enhancement of CIBC’s climate strategy, ensuring it meets both technical quantitative and qualitative disclosure requirements.

Requirements

  • Relevant education and experience.
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Sustainability, Business, Climate Science, Engineering, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in sustainability and climate-related research, benchmarking, or data analysis—preferably within financial services.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Solid understanding of climate-related concepts, emissions reporting metrics and accounting, and evolving disclosure requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, with experience using presentation and analytics tools.
  • Clear communicator and problem solver.
  • Ability to thrive on explaining complex concepts to different audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and pay attention to detail.
  • Skilled at research and analysis.
  • Confident in communicating detailed information in an impactful way.
  • Motivated by accomplishing goals and making a meaningful impact.

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of climate-related concepts, including carbon accounting, financed emissions, transition planning, and sustainability reporting frameworks.
  • Stay informed about the evolving regulatory and policy landscape, proactively identifying emerging opportunities and supporting engagements with external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the research, development, and alignment of CIBC’s climate strategy.
  • Provide project management support.
  • Apply sustainability and climate-related data analytics skills to derive insights and inform decision-making.
  • Offer climate subject matter expertise to help identify and drive climate initiatives in partnership with business colleagues.
  • Support the ongoing development and enhancement of CIBC’s climate strategy, ensuring it meets both technical quantitative and qualitative disclosure requirements.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research to analyze industry and regulatory trends related to climate.
  • Identify areas of opportunity through data mining and analysis and manage end-to-end research needs for the Enterprise Sustainability Team.
  • Interpret and synthesize climate and sustainability data to communicate insights and support key decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to build climate data capabilities and implement measurement strategies.
  • Produce scheduled and ad hoc climate-related updates for senior management.
  • Build and maintain a central repository for sustainability and climate research and contribute to presentation content and reporting analytics.
  • Support the planning, tracking, and execution of bank-wide climate initiatives.
  • Conduct meetings and manage follow-up activities with business partners to ensure successful project outcomes.
