About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Resident Service Coordinator, the Resident Service Specialist is responsible for the organization and implementation of regular and seasonal programs and activities for HABD residents, including, but not limited to, promoting physical, educational, and social development. Duties require the exercise of considerable mature judgment in developing and administering federal programs and the coordination of center staff activities as required. Requirements

  • Knowledge of the general operations and procedures of a Public Housing Agency (PHA).
  • Knowledge of community/social services available through local, state, and federal agencies and/or funding sources.
  • Knowledge of sources and availability of information relating to social services with the ability to secure the confidence and cooperation of other public agencies.
  • Knowledge of report preparation techniques and procedures. Ability to prepare and evaluate professional and technical reports and other documents.
  • Knowledge of social trends, economic conditions, and their application to overall community service programs. Knowledge of source availability and information relating to community services.
  • Knowledge of office equipment, including copiers, personal computers, calculators, facsimile machines, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and the ability to conduct research, and prepare comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, employees, and the general public; ability to communicate with people from a broad range of socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to orient others and explain organizational policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to administer first aid in accordance with required procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and present ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to evaluate and disseminate factual information and develop proposals to promote solutions to the residents' educational, social, recreational, and civic problems.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership experience, professional ability, and capability to elicit cooperation.
  • Associate's Degree or two (2) years of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of sports, coaching, or related experience. Minimum of six (6) months experience in community service or related field, OR High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years experience in community service or related field.
  • Possession of a valid Alabama drivers license and safe driving record for those required to drive or allowed to drive on behalf of HABD.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Must be able to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks.
  • Highly proficient in collaborative work, adaptable to shifting goals and priorities. Must have strong writing, editing, and oral communication skills and works well in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and implement regular and seasonal programs and activities, including, but not limited to, promoting physical, mental, educational, and social development among residents.
  • Enforce rules and regulations of the center to maintain discipline. Act to ensure no possible hazards or unsafe conditions; administer first aid according to prescribed procedures; and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to plan, organize, train, and assist with overseeing work assignments as directed by the coordinator.
  • Coordinate with public and private sector organizations and groups and/or agencies on behalf of the HABD to promote community center programs and partnerships.
  • Confer with the Resident Service Coordinator and staff to review and resolve residents complaints.
  • Complete and maintain data tracking and evaluations of programs and services to ensure effective and positive outcomes using HABD approved systems.
  • Evaluate recreation areas, facilities, programs, and services to determine effectiveness.
  • Assist the Resident Services Coordinator with working with the Property Manager and maintenance staff in identifying areas needing preventive maintenance, housekeeping, and resident resources.
  • Assist the Resident Services Coordinator with day-to-day operation of the community centers, including field trips, resident activities, etc.
  • Ensure the centers are maintained in a clean, neat, orderly, safe, and healthy manner, and perform other duties as assigned.
