About The Position

Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. is one of the largest human services providers in California. The agency operates a variety of programs to serve the poor and strives to find permanent solutions to crisis situations by offering clients the tools and resources they need to achieve greater self-reliance and stability in their lives. Angel’s Flight provides a safe refuge for runaway and homeless youth, many of whom are escaping abusive or unstable family environments. Located in the Westlake District near Hollywood, our 24-hour shelter supports youth ages 10–17 who have run away, are experiencing homelessness, or are at risk. Our mission is to create a supportive environment focused on healing, empowerment, and successful family reunification whenever possible. Through compassionate care, structured programs, and individualized case planning, Angel’s Flight helps young people stabilize and begin planning their next steps within just three days of entering the shelter.

Requirements

  • Two years of college education
  • Six to twelve months of related experience
  • Must speak conversational Spanish
  • Writes clearly and informatively.
  • Edits work for spelling and grammar.
  • Presents numerical data effectively.
  • Able to read and interpret written information.
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Listens and gets clarification.
  • Responds well to questions.
  • Demonstrates group presentation skills.
  • Participates in meetings.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license to drive a company vehicle to transport youth.

Responsibilities

  • Determining clients’ eligibility for Agency programs or referral to government programs.
  • Interviewing and obtaining background information from clients, initiating and processing casework, identifying applicants’ needs and making appropriate referrals for health, social and employment services.
  • Assisting clients to complete and submit application forms for government and other social service agencies.
  • Providing support services to individuals residing in the community.
  • Providing training on an individual basis for such skills as personal hygiene, clothing care, mobility, taking medicines, managing money, meal planning/preparation, etc.
  • Assisting with meal planning/preparation, household maintenance, communication, community participation, medical appointments, etc.
  • Making routine community contacts with such institutions as schools, medical facilities and social service departments.
  • Locating and making use of appropriate community resources for clients.
  • Evaluating actual living conditions of clients through home visits.
  • Assisting with casework administration.
  • Coordinating and assisting in the preparation of client mass orientations.
  • Assisting in the scheduled mailing for screening interviews.
  • Assisting higher-level Client Resources Coordinators in updating client contact logs, maintaining necessary files and statistical information on clients.
  • Preparing reports and related analysis of data.
  • Inputting and transmitting data.
  • Monitoring participants’ progress reports.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of client information and records.
  • Promoting continuous quality improvement and service delivery that is aligned with the Agency’s mission.
  • Displaying sensitivity to the client population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Performing related duties as required.
