Client-Embedded Underwriter (P&C)

Neural Earth
$170,000 - $198,000Hybrid

About The Position

Neural Earth is seeking a Client-Embedded Underwriter (P&C) to join their Revenue team. This role is crucial in translating the company's decision intelligence platform into market opportunity and customer value. The Revenue team encompasses sales, customer success, and go-to-market strategy, working closely with Product and Engineering. This position is one of the initial hires that will define the company's go-to-market motion in a technically complex enterprise space. The role requires an individual who has direct experience in the seat they are selling into, having owned a loss ratio, defended a rate filing, and critically evaluated vendor models. As a Client-Embedded Underwriter, you will work directly within a carrier's book, utilizing Neural Earth's platform (Prometheus) to analyze exposure, identify discrepancies with incumbent models, and communicate these findings to key decision-makers like Chief Actuaries. This is a practitioner role with commercial authority, responsible for owning the account, the technical argument, and the financial outcomes.

Requirements

  • 6 to 9 years of experience within a carrier, reinsurer, or MGA in roles such as pricing actuary, underwriting manager, cat modeling lead, or portfolio manager.
  • Carrier-side experience is prioritized, with a longer tenure in carrier roles than vendor roles.
  • Personal ownership of a loss ratio, a rate filing, or a treaty renewal, with the ability to specify the book, state, year, and number.
  • Practitioner fluency in Touchstone, RMS, or AIR as a user who has questioned outputs, not as a seller or integrator.
  • A network of at least fifteen Chief Actuaries, Chief Underwriting Officers, and Heads of Cat Modeling who would take a call.
  • Ability to accommodate travel as needed (~40%).

Nice To Haves

  • You have sat in the seat we are selling into.
  • You have owned a loss ratio, defended a rate filing, and watched a vendor model tell you something about your own book that you knew was wrong.
  • You write. You have argued a position and shown the math in a memo, a filing narrative, or a whitepaper, anything longer than a slide.
  • You will be wrong in public. In the first ten minutes of a meeting, you will tell a Chief Actuary where our model diverges from theirs and why we might be the ones who are off.
  • You see this as a practitioner seat with commercial authority, not a sales seat with a technical wrapper. You own the account, the technical argument, and the number.
  • You are not an Account Executive who positions our platform as a data feed with a feature list to land a pilot, and you are not a cat modeling scientist without commercial instinct: you convert credibility into decisions, not just a well-respected pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite alongside the customer by embedding in a carrier or reinsurer's actual book (e.g., Florida wind, California wildfire, Texas hail).
  • Run Prometheus against in-force exposure to identify where incumbent models are incorrect, proving findings at parcel resolution.
  • Author one-page memos to Chief Actuaries that diagnose loss ratio divergences, concede valid points, and recommend decisions.
  • Create the market category, account by account, by arguing for the existence of a budget line based on peer recognition.
  • Translate field learnings into product roadmap insights, with direct access to engineering and the CEO.
  • Diagnose divergences between models and communicate findings honestly, acknowledging when the company might be incorrect.
  • Convert credibility into decisions, not just pipeline.

  • Majority employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents
