About The Position

Position requires the professional performance of complete quality customer service, general clerical duties of moderate complexity, and cashiering for the department's residential permit parking program.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of general office procedures including filing systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of business math, balancing and reconciling daily transactions, taking cash, issuing change, and credit card transactions; performing daily cash balancing.
  • Ability to deal with customers in a professional and facilitating manner.
  • Knowledge of receptionist duties, business English, spelling, mathematics and looking up information.
  • Knowledge of Pennsylvania State Motor Vehicle Code parking regulations.
  • Knowledge of City of Pittsburgh codes regarding parking and anti-litter ordinances.
  • Ability to accurately type.
  • Thoroughly skilled in the operation of a typewriter/computer/copier/calculator and fax machine.
  • Knowledge and ability in the use of a calculator, personal computer and software applications.
  • Ability to proofread copy, compare words and numbers for accuracy and to make accurate corrections.
  • Ability to follow moderately complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to withstand abuse from the public and to be professional, courteous and tactful at all times.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with the public, City of Pittsburgh departments, other agencies, and employees.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • At least two years of general clerical experience, which includes typing.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience demonstrating proficiency in the operation and use of a Microsoft office products.

Responsibilities

  • Register and issue residential parking permits and visitors passes to customers either in person or electronically.
  • Type information into the Residential Permit Parking template.
  • Perform cashiering functions, taking cash, making change, credit card transactions, daily cash balancing, opening and closing a cash drawer.
  • May review and evaluate daily reports from the residential parking permit program.
  • Keep manual and/or computerized records accurate by posting and checking.
  • Research residential permit parking issues.
  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Handle mail and messages by receiving, sending, sorting and distributing.
  • Perform typing, filing, handling mail and proof reading.
  • Type letters, memos, forms, requisitions, invoices, labels, lists, reports, and documents.
  • Receive telephone calls, routes to appropriate person, if applicable.
  • May give information or directions to callers.
  • Classify, indexes, files or distributes forms, correspondence, cards and receipts.
  • Search, pulls and routes files as appropriate.
  • May perform data entry retrieval and other processes as requested or required.
  • Compose simple and routine correspondence.
  • Compile, update, review and make available all State and City Motor Vehicle Code parking regulations - types of violations - costs and fines.
  • Ability to deal directly and work cooperatively with the City of Pittsburgh's Planning Department and Bureau of Building Inspection.
  • Perform activities, functions and other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
