About The Position

This role involves providing various clerical services to an assigned unit, processing physician's orders, and collaborating with departments to schedule patient tests and appointments. The position also requires contacting other facilities for appointments, tests, and transfers. Additionally, the role may involve monitoring telemetry rhythms, interpreting fetal or cardiac rhythms, and informing the nurse of life-threatening arrhythmias. Responsibilities include monitoring blood pressure and oxygen saturation, recording patient information and rhythm strips, assisting with basic patient daily living needs, acting as a communication hub for customer service, performing computer operations, initiating and maintaining admission, discharge, and transfer information, and ensuring accurate billing/charge entry.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write well enough to follow detailed procedures and perform basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to read telemetry monitor strips and interpret life threatening arrhythmic conditions.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • High school education or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Six to twelve months of clinical/clerical experience in an acute care setting.
  • At least three months experience as a nursing assistant or ward clerk.

Responsibilities

  • Provides various clerical services to their assigned unit.

  • Contacts and interacts with other facilities in order to arrange appointments, tests, and transfers.
  • Monitors telemetry rhythms for pertinent changes in fetal or cardiac rhythms and interprets rhythms and keeps nurse informed of life threatening arrhythmias.
  • Monitors blood pressure and oxygen sats and reporting changes to appropriate nurse.
  • Records pertinent patient information and rhythm strips in the clinical record.
  • Assists with basic patient daily living needs, such as; personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, transferring, eating, etc.
  • Acts as a focus of communication for internal/external customer service.
  • Performs computer operations accurately and efficiently.
  • Initiates and maintains admission, discharge, and transfer information.
  • Responsible for accurate billing/charge entry.
