About The Position

This role provides various clerical services to an assigned unit, processing physician’s orders and collaborating with departments to schedule patient tests and appointments. The position involves contacting external facilities for appointments, tests, and transfers. A key responsibility includes monitoring telemetry rhythms for changes in fetal or cardiac rhythms, interpreting them, and informing the nurse of life-threatening arrhythmias. Additionally, the role involves monitoring blood pressure and oxygen saturation, reporting changes to the nurse, and recording pertinent patient information and rhythm strips in the clinical record. The Clerk/Tech will also assist with basic patient daily living needs, act as a communication hub for customer service, perform computer operations, initiate and maintain admission, discharge, and transfer information, and be responsible for accurate billing/charge entry.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write well enough to follow detailed procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to read telemetry monitor strips and interpret life-threatening arrhythmic conditions.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • High school education or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Six to twelve months of clinical/clerical experience in an acute care setting.
  • At least three months experience as a nursing assistant or ward clerk.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic patient daily living needs (personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, transferring, eating, etc.).
  • Act as a focus of communication for internal/external customer service.
  • Perform computer operations accurately and efficiently.
  • Initiate and maintain admission, discharge, and transfer information.
  • Ensure accurate billing/charge entry.
