About The Position

The City of Groveport, Ohio is central Ohio's small town. Groveport is a growing City in southeastern Franklin County. We are looking for a Clerk of Courts to join our team. Requirements

  • Completion of secondary education or equivalent; associate degree in political science or law-related area; or one (1) year related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Notary Public
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and maintain insurability under the Municipality’s vehicle insurance policy.
  • Cellular phone, personal computer, computer software, printer, copy machine, fax machine, and other standard business office equipment.
  • Knowledge of: local court rules and procedures; municipal goals and objectives; municipal policies and procedures; government structure and process; personnel rules; workplace safety practices and procedures; courtroom procedures; office practices and procedures; English grammar and spelling; records management; project management.
  • Skill in: data entry; word processing; computer operation; use of modern office equipment; motor vehicle operation.
  • Ability to: interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form; deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations; add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers; copy material accurately and recognize grammatical and spelling errors; complete routine forms; prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; communicate effectively; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; maintain records according to established procedures; work alone on most tasks; answer routine telephone inquiries; develop and maintain effective working relationships; travel to and gain access to work site.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the public in person and by phone, including retrieving information and files, and providing general information regarding scheduling of court dates, defensive driving, warrants, and granting extensions; assists the public in problem solving and research activities.
  • Compiles, types, records, and issues a wide variety of court records, reports, and materials (e.g., citations, summons, warrants, letters, reports, complaints, etc.); coordinates court schedule; serves as legal assistant for Director of Law with respect to municipal court matters.
  • Processes court payments on citations and prepares and issues receipts upon payment.
  • Sorts, files, copies, and distributes court documents and reports to appropriate personnel; processes paperwork required by law for cases appealed to a higher court; files all documentation according to established procedures.
  • Maintains contact with the general public, attorneys, officers, and various government agencies/officials in order to obtain or disseminate information related to the essential potential functions.
  • Maintains required licensures and certification.
  • Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs Clerk of Council responsibilities in absence of Clerk of Council.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
