About The Position

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations. Reporting to the Manager Diagnostic Services, Diagnostic Imaging - Child Health, the incumbent provides reception and clerical support for the department.

Requirements

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Typing 50 wpm and medical terminology (75% pass mark) required.
  • Must be able to relate and communicate well with patients and their families and have some knowledge of the emotional and psychosocial needs of children in hospitals and apply this knowledge toward alleviating the trauma of undergoing unpleasant tests for both the patient and parents.
  • Must be able to promote a patient oriented and personalized environment.
  • Must have effective English communication skills (both oral and written) and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must have good organizational skills, prioritize demands and be able to accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must have a high degree of accuracy.
  • May be asked to escort patients to other areas of the hospital.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Stands and moves about during most of the working day in a confined space.
  • Bends, reaches, lifts and carries for short distances materials or accessory equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to function effectively in a stressful environment with frequent interruptions.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous reception experience preferred.
  • Previous experience using the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Admission, Transfer, Discharge System (ATD) and Electronic Patient Record (EPR) preferred.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as a receptionist for the area; answering telephones, taking and relaying messages, and greeting and directing patients and visitors.
  • Monitoring the waiting areas and providing support and assistance to patients/families/caregivers.
  • Scheduling in and out patients, emergency appointments, organizing and faxing all elective appointments to referring physician offices, mailing confirmation letters to patients, booking patients for biopsies and procedures to be done with sedation or general anaesthesia.
  • Coordinating with requesting physician offices and; scheduling all in-hospital clinic appointments in RIS after requisitions have been received and coded by the Technologists and Radiologists; rescheduling appointments as required.
  • Preparing all requisitions prior to patient arrival including searching patient demographics in the Client Registry and transferring information into RIS; taking requisitions to Central Registry to obtain HRN numbers.
